There’s too much high-level speculation/ranting/Trump-bashing and too little granular ground-level reporting.
I’d like to see more of that, specifically the impact on Chinese manufacturing, where you’d have a linguistic edge. What’s the word on Weibo? Are domestic stimulus measures effective or just talk? At what point does the damage become irreversible even if tariffs are removed? Will there be a debt default domino effect from job losses and business bankrupties? Does the Chinese state have the expertise/flexibility/incentives to deal with this, besides throwing money at the problem? How much worse will the cash crunch get for local and provincial governments?
this story is pretty interesting. I don't think the effect of tariffs on the liquidity constraints of forwarders has been documented anywhere. great work!
I stumbled across your substack when I searched for “tariffs” and it’s very good. I hope you two continue writing.
Thank you so much Gortin! We definitely plan to keep writing, and your encouragement means a lot. Let us know what else you'd like to read more about!
